i finally finished the book "For One More Day" by Mitch Albom, about 2 months after ray bought it for me! hahaha

For One More Day is a relatively light-read.
the story is broken up into various random episodes of the main character's life, so you dont really have to sit and read the entire book at one go to understand the gist of it.
all the way through to the last chapter, i thought the book was a disappointment.
language is simple, the events meaningful but not deep - i was merely reading about an ordinary man's life and his regrets.. definitely not what i had expected.

but then again, he's not my favourite author for nothing! hahahahah
i came to the last chapter, and there was something about the way the story ends - i teared. (on the bus! lol)
i finished the book, gave it some thought on the way home and goodness, i cried.

because i thought about MY mother.
if i were to categorise my personal accounts into "Times I Stood Up for My Mother" and "Times I Didnt", i'd probably fill up the latter.
there is one isolated memory i have of my mum, which dates back a few years ago when i was still in secondary school.

it was about 1am i think, and i was doing math alone in my room.
my mum came into the room and nagged at me, asking me to go to sleep.
i was probably frustrated at the amount of work i had undone, and i vented my anger on her. i shouted stuff like "still got so much homework left, how to sleep! you do for me lah! go away lah!"

she quietly closed the door.
minutes later, she came in again and said gently,"i warmed a bottle of chicken essence for you. it's in the kitchen. drink it before you sleep okay? goodnight."

i felt so guilty after she closed the door that i cried while solving A Maths.
and i still cried when i got reminded of the incident many years later.
what i learnt from the book is that, so often, we look up to our father for all the contributions he makes to the family, that we'd conveniently neglect the mother.

my mother is a very patient lady.
she has the tendency to show biasness towards my brother, and i often scream at her for that.
i forget that on many, many occasions that i've been bullied, she'd stand up fiercely for me.
there was once she created such a huge commotion in Ikea Cafe, just because the auntie thought i was filling up my soft drink for the second time and my mum was demanding an apology on my behalf.

because the story involved death and regrets, i thought about how would i feel towards my mum when one day, she's no longer around to make me laugh at her silly antics or there to gossip with me.

that's when i cried..
i take her for granted - i scream at her without restraint and when im feeling better, just resume normalcy without any apology.

terrible daughter, i know.

i had a two-hour talk-cock session online with my brother last night.
i thought about it too, and i dont think we'll ever chat like that when he's at home.
hmm i'll blog about my brother another time, when im free-er. haha!

going for my group discussion lo...
and i have this immature, lazy and incompetent group member who irritates me to no end. SIGHHHH
